From the recording I Must Be Dreaming

Riding home at the end of the day, the sunroof open, the heat of a Texas summer a welcome contrast to the windowless chill of the recording studio, driving west toward a beautiful sunset; this song sort of showed up. It also delves into my dreaming life, the theme of the CD "I Must Be Dreaming". For some reason, I always think of my brother Chris when I sing the line, "...next minute I'm crying why does everything happen to me?"

Lyrics

Did you ever wake up not knowing where you were
Where the places and faces around you were just a blur?
Well I’ve been walking around on the concrete in my head
My future cemented in place with every step I tread

I really thought I had it all down pat
Thought I knew just where my life was at
Now everything is changing faster than
The colors of a sunset sky

I spring out of bed knowing all this was meant to be
Next minute I’m crying why does everything happen to me?
Just one phone call can bring my whole world to an end
But your voice in my ear puts me back on the track again

I really thought I had it all down pat,
Thought I knew just where my life was at
Now everything is changing faster than
The colors of a sunset sky

Each day when the sun goes down
I know I’ll see the light
The hues of blues fade into night

By the end of the day I grow tired of the race
I put the world at my back and the wind in my face
I look up at the sky and I nearly cry
I see a thousand colors, not one can be described

I really thought I had it all down pat
Thought I knew just where my life was at
Now everything is changing faster than
The colors of a sunset sky
