From the recording Give'em What They Want
After falling asleep in front of the tv one night while listening to Kid Rock talk about how he was living the dream, I had a dream in which Emmylou Harris and I were talking about following your dreams. I mentioned to her that while all that sounded good, at a certain point in one's later years, perhaps your expectations could use a little adjustment, to which she replied, "Well, why don't you write a song about it?". I asked "What sort of song would that be?", and she proceeds to play a rythymic groove on the guitar.
I awoke with a line or two of lyrics and a groove, and now it's 3AM, and I write the rest of the song before going back to sleep.
Just a little insight into my writing process.
Renée Wahl sang harmony. She's a wonderful singer and writer, and I'm so happy to have produced a record for her.
Josh Hunt played drums. The rest (again!?) is me.

Take a Chance (4:13)
--Patterson Barrett ©2017 (BMI) Criminal Tunes
After all these years to find myself in this circumstance
Ready to take a chance on love
You wandered through my dreams like you were born there
And you stepped into my world and left your songs there
I wore my sorrow like a cloak to keep me warm
In the cold gray morning after love’s brutal storm
Now I can’t believe that I’d receive this gift again
Waiting for the ride to end
After all these years to find myself in this circumstance
Ready to take a chance on love
Being with you is way too easy
Am I being blinded by your bright light?
So long in the dark it’s hard to trust my eyes again
Can I love once more; if not now, then when?
Now I can’t believe that I’d receive this gift again
Waiting for the ride to end
After all these years to find myself in this circumstance
Ready to take a chance on love
How can I resist love’s slow burning kiss
I know the way so well that it’s hard to tell if I‘m leading or being led
Now I can’t believe that I’d receive this gift again
Waiting for the ride to end
After all these years to find myself in this circumstance
Ready to take a chance on love
Now I can’t believe that I’d receive this gift again
Waiting for the ride to end
After all these years to find myself in this circumstance
Ready to take a chance on love
Take a chance on love
Can I love again?
Just one more chance at love
